Thanksgiving Hike with New Folks

Overheard conversation on this morning's hike: "I am glad I moved into a new development in Cobourg. Everyone else was new. It was easy to make new friends."

Somewhere around a dozen hikers came out on a Thanksgiving Sunday morning for exercise, fresh air and camaraderie! I think we succeeded on all counts.

  • Exercise: There were a few small hills on our 6 km walk.

  • Fresh Air: Most of us were happy to have our toques and mittens on.

  • Camaraderie: No camaraderie at all happening in the photo below.

Some of the townsfolk experienced being passed by a very large tractor pulling a grain buggy filled with 1,500 bushels of soybeans. You never know what you'll encounter in those hills. Below is one of the newly harvested soybean fields.

Aren't lights at the end of the tunnel beautiful? We are coming out of the Covid-19 Tunnel as a club and have been blessed with many new members. One of today's new members has hiked around the world: Amalfi Coast in Italy, Machu Picchu in Peru and other far-flung places. She will be in good company when she joins the club and she'll find kindred spirits there.

We've implemented a few safety measures in order to keep our happy hikers safe. You are looking at one of them.

It's orange.

Yes! Bright orange safety vests worn by leader and sweep. Wouldn't be my first fashion choice, but to keep these lovely folks safe - it's perfect. Why didn't we think of this sooner?

Maybe this will be true of us one day:

“My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty.

She's ninety-seven now,

and we don't know where the heck she is.”
