We now have an 11 year old in our family. Today, birds circled around and trusted him enough to eat from his hand. So thankful for people who leave little piles of birdseed along the path so kids can scoop some up and smile.
And.... wow! Is the Lemoine Point Conservation Area beautiful!!!!
The eleven-year-old has a sister who finds wonderful things to do with plastic bags. They gulp air and they hold her treasures: a handful of milkweed seeds and some bright red berries. Birds also circle around and light on her hands.
This week we are pretending that we own a cottage on the side of a lake. Even though we wonder how it is we have an 11 year old, time has slowed down for us and we are paying attention to the moon and to sunsets.
Better late than never.
“Try to imagine a life without timekeeping.
You probably can’t.
You know the month, the year, the day of the week.
There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car.
You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie.
Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored.
Birds are not late.
A dog does not check its watch.
Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear
that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.”
Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper
